The entrance test runs itself

Last week Admissions took a child from first enquiry to admitted student. This week the entrance test joins it: switch it on for a class, build the paper, schedule the class, and the test is taken, timed and marked without anyone in the office holding a red pen. Plus a public Admissions Guide, split screen and bulk student actions on school.edii.in, and the EDII Admin app rebuilt around Today.

A school that holds an entrance test usually prints the paper, books a hall, marks a pile by hand and types the marks into a list. Now the paper lives in Admissions, the child takes it at home in the EDII parent app or on your admission page, and the rank list is waiting when the window closes.

An online entrance test for every class

  • Switch it on per class. Under Admissions → Settings → Entrance test, turn the test on, then in Classes choose for each class whether it has a test, which paper, the window it runs in, how long it lasts, the pass marks, and what parents see afterwards: Qualified or Not qualified, the marks, or nothing. Classes without a test are untouched, and one child can be excused.
  • Build the paper. Admissions → Entrance tests holds the question papers for the session: multiple choice, true or false, fill in the blanks and match the pairs. Paste questions in or import them from the question bank, check every question, publish, duplicate the paper for another class, and close it when the season is done.
  • Schedule a class, or the children you pick. From the Pipeline, schedule the test for a whole class or for the applications you select. Each family gets the date, the time window and the link by email and as an EDII app notification, with a hall ticket they can keep.
  • Timed, saved, marked by itself. The clock runs on our side, answers save as the child goes, and the test submits itself when the time is up. It marks itself the moment it is in, so nobody waits for a pile.
  • Results, rank, next step. Admissions → Test results shows the marks, pass or not, time taken and rank for each class, with an Excel download and a print. Mark a child absent, or offer seats to those who qualified, from the same page.
  • On the application, and on the merit list. Every application has an Entrance test tab with the child's answers, where you can reset a test with a reason. The merit list can rank a class on the test score, or on the points your own criteria give.
  • In the parent app, and on your admission page. The EDII parent app (25.48.46, on both stores) shows an Entrance test card on the application with the date, the window and the duration, and the child takes the test in the app. Families who applied on your admission page take it there, from the same link.
  • Objective questions in this version. Multiple choice, true or false, blanks and matches mark themselves. A test taken at the school on a PIN, for families without a phone to spare, is next.

The Admissions Guide, public for your office and your parents

  • Every screen of Admissions, explained. The EDII Admissions Guide walks the office through settings, the pipeline, documents and fees, the entrance test, merit lists and Admit, and walks a parent through finding the school, applying, paying and taking the test. It is public, with a PDF to print.
  • Help pages for the new screens. help.edii.in has step-by-step pages for Entrance tests and Test results, and every Admissions page was re-checked against the current screens of school.edii.in.
  • Help for the EDII Admin app and for split screen. The help site's Admin app section follows the rebuilt app, and a new guide shows how to work on two or three pages side by side in school.edii.in.

On school.edii.in: split screen, students in bulk, a menu that matches your settings

  • Split screen. Work on two or three pages side by side in one window, for example the Fee desk next to a student's record. Click Split screen in the top bar and choose Add a screen. Side by side or stacked, drag the line between screens, swap a page to the main screen; your screens stay open when you reload or change the session.
  • Students, in bulk. Tick the box at the top of Students and choose Select all to pick every student that matches your filters, not only this page. Delete them together, with a restore under Deleted Students. Click a row to see a student's details without leaving the list.
  • Every column, in one click. The Columns button under tables and reports now has Select all, to show every column at once, in exports too.
  • Collected today, on Home. Home shows Collected today as its own big number, with the month so far and today's spending under it. Today's day book opens today's collection.
  • A menu that matches your settings. Pages switched off in Settings → Preferences stay off after you sign in, switch branch or school, or open EDII on another computer. On laptops the menu shows the name under every icon, and the ⋮ menu on table rows opens on a click or a tap.
  • Older duplicate pages, out of the way. Add Book and View Books (use Library Catalog), Add Buzz (use Circulars → Buzz), the older Teacher Performance, the old circular file pages and Deleted Receipts have left the side menu; their old links open the page that replaced them.
  • Smaller things that stopped getting in the way. If the browser blocks the print window, a message asks you to allow pop-ups instead of showing "Something went wrong". Run report on the Reports pages runs the report again instead of reloading the page. The Fee desk fits the space it has, in split screen too.

In the apps, in EDII Brain, and for developers

  • The EDII Admin app, rebuilt around Today. Version 1.2 opens on your school's day: what needs you now, approvals in a tap, today's collection, the sections not yet marked, birthdays, a nudge to a teacher, and this season's admissions. It is with the stores for review and reaches your phone as soon as they approve it.
  • Parent app: know which phones use your account. Settings has a new Device ID row; tap it to copy or share it if EDII support asks. Support tickets raised from the app carry it too (25.48.47, on both stores).
  • Teacher app: delete a notification. Tap the bin on a notification you no longer need, confirm, and it is gone from your list (2.9.25).
  • EDII Brain names the child, and the reason. The at-risk watchlist shows each child by name with why they are on it, the morning brief's risks have plain headings instead of codes, and fees pending for weeks now raise a risk of their own.
  • EDII for Developers. The language model EDII runs on its own servers is open to any developer by API key at developer.edii.in, in the format the usual SDKs already speak. The blog post explains why a school platform publishes its model.

A test the office does not have to mark.

Entrance tests used to mean a hall, a pile of papers and an evening of marking. Now the paper is built once, each class is scheduled from the board, the child takes it at home, and the rank list is waiting when the window closes. More next week.
