EDII on Telegram · for parents and schools

School messages on Telegram, free.

Every SMS and every WhatsApp message a school sends costs it money, so messages get rationed — the reminder goes to a shortlist, the notice goes up on a board. Telegram costs nothing per message. EDII now carries your school's fee, attendance, homework and notice messages there too, to parents who never installed the app.

01 · For parents

Three steps, about a minute.

You need the Telegram app on your phone, and the phone number your child's school has on record. Nothing else — no EDII app, no password.

1 · Scan the poster

Scan the code on the poster your school has put up on the notice board or pasted in the school diary — or open the joining link the school shared in your parents' group.

2 · Tap Start

Telegram opens on your school's EDII bot. Tap Start.

3 · Share your number

Share the phone number the school has on record. From then on the school's messages reach you on Telegram as well. If that number is saved against more than one of your children, you get all of them.

Already use the EDII app? Open Profile → Settings → Notifications → Get notifications on Telegram and it links every child signed in on that phone. The app carries on working exactly as before — Telegram is in addition to it, not instead of it.

02 · For schools

Three screens, under Messaging.

Telegram sits beside SMS and WhatsApp as another channel inside EDII. The same senders, the same school settings, the same parent mutes — the messages a school already sends simply travel one more way.

Poster

Print it for the notice board, or paste it into the school diary. Parents scan its code to join. Copy link gives you the same joining link to drop into a parents' group.

Send Message

Type a message and send it to the parents of the whole school, a class, or one section. The page tells you how many students' parents it will reach before you send.

Joined Parents

See which students' parents have joined, by class and section, with how each one joined and when — so you know how much of the school you can really reach this way.

Telegram messages go to Telegram only; they do not appear in the parent app. Messages sent through EDII's usual senders — fees, attendance, homework, notices — reach whichever channels a parent is on.

What schools and parents ask

Is it really free?
Telegram does not charge to deliver a message, so a school pays nothing per message sent this way. SMS and WhatsApp are unchanged and still cost what they always did — Telegram is an extra channel, not a replacement.
Does a parent need the EDII app?
No. That is the point of it. A parent needs only Telegram on their phone and their number on record at the school, which is why it reaches families who never got round to installing the app.
Should we stop sending SMS or WhatsApp?
No. Not every parent uses Telegram, so it works best alongside them — carrying the messages a school would otherwise not have sent at all, and reaching the parents who have joined at no cost.
How does a parent stop the messages?
By sending /stop to the EDII bot. It takes effect at once, and nothing else about their EDII account changes.
Can a parent with two children at the school join once?
Yes. One number saved against several students links all of them, and each message says which child it is about.
Who can see a child's information?
Only the number the school has on record for that student. A parent is matched on their own Telegram contact number, and the school's own settings, mutes and quiet hours apply exactly as they do on every other channel. Is your data safe? See Security & trust.
A parent's number has changed.
Ask the school office to update it in EDII, then join again with the new number.

Telegram comes with EDII, the school operating system. Parents also get the Student app for homework, attendance, fees and learning.
